Chief Growth Officer

Jeff D. Brourman, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVS-SA, is a Board-certified Veterinary Surgeon and the Chief Growth Officer for MedVet.

Dr. Jeff Brourman wanted to become a veterinarian at age 12 when he began volunteering at a local animal hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked in veterinary medicine while he attended Ohio State University for undergraduate and veterinary school training. During this time, he joined a veterinary specialty hospital in Columbus, Ohio, as an assistant and began research with The Ohio State University Division of Cardiothoracic and Heart Transplant Surgery. While in veterinary training, Dr. Jeff Brourman performed externships at the Animal Medical Center and at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

During veterinary school, Dr. Brourman received the Ohio State University Excellence in Small Animal Surgery Award in 1997. Upon graduation, he pursued a small animal internship at Michigan State University where he earned the Intern of the Year Award in 1998. He then returned to Ohio State for an intensive three-year surgical residency where he earned the Ohio State University Hospital Service Award and the Graduate Resident Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. During residency training, Dr. Brourman also earned a Master of Science degree.

In 2003 upon completing his residency, Dr. Brourman worked at one of the largest private veterinary referral hospitals in the country and passed his surgery board examination to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. During his residency and two years in private practice, he performed extensive research and gained clinical experience in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, joint replacement, and other types of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.

He was one of only a few people in the country to perform open-heart surgery on animals using cardiopulmonary bypass. In addition, he has performed feline kidney transplants and was the first person to perform an ilial-ureteral substitution procedure clinically in a cat. He has extensive experience in joint reconstruction and replacement, performed hundreds of total hip replacements, and is part of a WestVet team who performed the first hip resurfacing procedure in a dog. His ongoing research interests include a comparison study between the TPLO and TTA knee surgery for dogs and the ongoing development and refinement of the hip resurfacing procedure.

Dr. Jeff Brourman serves as a consultant for Securos Orthopedic International. In this role, he is involved in the design and development of various orthopedic implants, instruments, and procedures. He has extensive experience with spinal, orthopedic, oncologic, and soft tissue surgery and has been published as a principal and coauthor in several veterinary journals and one human medical journal.

Dr. Brourman has a passion for teaching. He has been a locum faculty surgery instructor for the University of California, Davis and provides lecture and laboratory instruction to veterinarians on a local, national, and international level. He was awarded Idaho’s Top 40 under 40 Award from the Idaho Business Review for WestVet’s accomplishments. He and his wife Brooke and their three children love living in Boise where they enjoy fly-fishing, bike riding, and camping.
